Cuba and the Caribbean remain to this day unique third spaces in the world of culture; Their music and history have remained scarred with the passage of time, slavery and colonialism. Yet they are identified as nothing other than what they are, unique.
My research engages with history, critical theory and musicology to illuminate the contact points contained through the passage of time; arguing that the hybrid nature of this formation empowers the unique identity while highlighting the negotiation that takes place and their right to narrate.
